Hanna Linnéa Ryd is a fashion alchemist and upcycling designer of HURRA PANGPANG. She's also the mind behind this monochrome pink "queendom", created for a teenage upcycling activist. Bedroom, workspace, upcycling station, walk-in closet, photo studio – this is a space bursting with function and creativity. And everything, we mean everything, is pink!
Hanna lives by the saying “nothing is waste until we waste it” and most of her furniture and things are second-hand, upcycled or DIY. She has turned old soft toys into an armchair cushion and used cardboard packaging to make a funky mirror frame. A simple layer of pink paint or spray gives everything a consistent look.
"I just love repurposing forgotten treasures into wearable treats. With the right twist, everything is worth a second chance. The story behind someone’s once-loved possessions is always worth celebrating." – Hanna
Spaces inspired by more sustainable living
The sustainable collab series showcases ten rooms by ten creatives around the world, each telling a story of togetherness, conscious living or connecting with nature. At your local IKEA online store, you'll find even more ideas for living a healthier, more mindful life at home.
Piggies sitting pretty
Hanna loves giving old products a new purpose – especially if it makes you look twice! Take these second-hand soft toys for instance: stitched together into a comfy cushion for the BUSKBO armchair.
Magic from packaging
Armed with a pair of scissors and pink spray paint, Hanna was able to customise this mirror and reduce waste – all by making use of the very cardboard box it came in!
The two rows of wall lamps on either side add to the dressing-room drama, while showcasing any ensemble in its best possible light.
More space to play
The STORÅ loft bed is the pink-painted heart of this room – maximising square metres so that its teenage resident doesn't have to choose between a good night's sleep or a home for their trove of wearable treasures.
Head in the clouds? Hanna used cardboard from the bed's packaging for a charming cloud-shaped headboard cutout. Simple, resourceful, and adorable.
Mixed, matched & snatched!
Welcome to the room's "walk-under" wardrobe, where Hanna has united an assortment of storage units in a harmonious coat of powder pink. Simple wall-mounted hooks and rails offer ample hanging storage – perfect for showing off these rose-hued thrifted fits.
A TROFAST storage combination whose boxes once housed dolls and other toys, works just as well for this teen's budding collection of fashion accessories.
The finishing touch
Who says storage can't have a sense of humour? Not Hanna. She used nine of these pink-painted HANDSKALAD decorations for an accessory display that, quite literally, gives you a hand in finishing off your look.
Home-sewn style
The teen's atelier is a place where dreams and seams become one – where overlooked garments are pulled apart, sewn back together, and given a new, gorgeous life.
Two side-by-side desks offer ample surface area for many a simultaneous sewing project; with adjustable heights for sitting or standing. And, with the full height IVAR storage unit and SKÅDIS pegboard, an imagination's worth of fabrics, patterns, threads and buttons can all fit comfortably.
